Supporters for Senator Obama reported for duty at 10:00 in the morning at the Alpha Center, the headquarters for the Eta Tau Lambda Housing Corporation. Mary Hodge, an Obama staffer, facilitated the canvassers as they walked throughout the Akron Community to get the people excited about the Barack Movement and his presidential campaign. As the canvassers returned from their walk, they were greeted with a line of supporters who eagerly anticipated the rally. The line began to form outside of the Alpha Center approximately at 1:00 pm and by 2:30 pm the line wrapped around the parking lot, all of whom were anxiously waiting to see Senator Edward “Ted” Kennedy, the longest serving democrat in the senate. The cold weather did not stop the many supporters from coming out and showing their support.
Amongst the crowd of supporters present to hear Senator Ted Kennedy speak were Chapter Founders Bro. Allen Killings, David Wilson and his wife, Summit County and Ohio officials including Akron Municipal Judge Annalisa Williams, wife of Bro. Councilman-at-Large Mike Williams, Ohio State Representatives Bro. Vernon Sykes and his wife Barbara Sykes, Rev. Bro. Curtis Walker, members of the Board of Education, various pastors, members of the laborers union and a variety of others.
